As always one step ahead of news bulletins, Jolta News brings you the latest on the PSL T20 events scheduled in the UAE.

T20 Teams and Matches

Five teams were announced by PCB on 3^rd December 2015, comprising of national and foreign players, captained by experienced cricketers and coached by professionals. These teams are to play matches in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) T20 scheduled by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to be held from 4^th February to 23^rd February in the UAE. The PSL teams have moved to Dubai and Sharjah for the matches. A twenty days long tournament will be played between the following fiveparticipatingteams in twenty four matches. A brief introduction of each team is given here.

1.      Karachi Kings

One of the five teams announced by PCB on 3^rd Dec, 2015, owned by ARY Media Groups and headed by Salman Iqbal, it is the most expensive franchise team purchased for $26 million. ARY has been advertising and promoting it through famous celebrities and ambassadors. Captained by Shoaib Malik, this team has 16 players out of which 5 are foreign players.

2.      Lahore Qalandars

It was purchased by RanaFawad of Qatar Lubricants Company for $24 million. Official sponsors of this team are Mobilink and Geo News. It has been decided that Azhar Ali will lead Lahore Qalandars as captain in this tournament. There are a total of 16 players, out of which five are foreign and eleven are local players.

3.      Peshawar Zalmi

This team was purchased by JavedAfridi, the owner of Haier in Pakistan for $16 million. The team is full of the spirit of the frontier province of Pakistan. Captained by the well-known ShahidAfridi, it has seven foreign players and rest arelocal players. It is being sponsored mainly by Express News and the brand ambassador is Hamza Ali Abbasi.

4.      Islamabad United

This team was purchased by Capital Leonine Global Sports a group of investors from UAE for $15 million. Captained by MisbahUlHaq, its icon player is Shane Watson and the team director is WasimAkram. WasimAkram is putting his skills and expertise forward to manage and direct the team and players. The team is comprised of 16 players out of which five are foreign players.

5.      Quetta Gladiators

The team comprises of 16 players, out of which five are foreign and eleven are local. Sarfraz Ahmed is the captain of Quetta Gladiators and it is coached by former Pakistani cricketer Moin Khan. Omar Associates, a Karachi based company purchased this franchise for $11 million. PTV is the media partner of this team.

Each team will play twice with another team in order to enter the semi-finals. Below is the official PSL Schedule 2016complete with dates, venues and timings. Dates and other information are subject to change and changes (if any) will be updated by Jolta News.

Umpires chosen to maintain transparency of the event

PCB has finalized the names of three foreign empires Mike Procter, Russell Tiffin and Rudi Koertzen and two Pakistani empires Aleem Dar and Asad Rauf to supervise the matches. The selection of foreign empires comes as a positive gesture because it would help to maintain complete transparency of the event. It has been years since Pakistan entered any international cricket scene and this tournament is being seen as a good initiative by national and international team members and viewers. Cricket fans are eagerly waiting for the matches to commence.

Inauguration Ceremony

The opening ceremony of PSL will be held with amidst much fanfare on the 4^th February, 2016 before the first opening match. It will be a star studded affair as a large number of celebrities are expected to attend the ceremony. Famous Pakistani musician Ali Zafar joined by the hip-hop artist Sean Paul are all set to dazzle worldwide audiences. Sanam Saeed and Mohib Mirza, two prominent Pakistani actors are also scheduled to attend and in act scenes from their movie together called ‘Bachana’. Rameez Raja and WasimAkram, the official ambassadors and world famous icons will also be present at the inauguration.
